I just spent the day running tests with Rush 102.42a7 and Microsoft Vista RC1. Rush 102.42a7 seems to work fine under Vista.. no modifications needed. (See caveats below) Even ActiveState Perl 5.6 installed without problems. Caveats for installing Rush on Microsoft Vista (RC1): 1) The default unzip utility for Vista RC1 seems to have a bug where by default it extracts all files with the READ ONLY bit set. After extracting rush, if you find eg. the /rush/etc/hosts file is 'read only' or uneditable, the quick fix is: attrib -R c:\rush\etc\* attrib -R c:\rush\var\* Do that to any other files you think you'll want to edit. 2) Run the "install.bat" script as the /actual/ "Administrator" user, and *not* just a user with admin privileges. Otherwise you'll get this error [..] *** Setup RUSH_DIR env variable.. ERROR: COULDN'T CREATE RUSH_DIR VARIABLE Apparently only "Administrator" has the privilege to modify the registry, which is what that error is about. 3) As usual, be sure to either turn off the "Windows Firewall", or make an "exception" for Rush's use of TCP + UDP port 696. All other rush setup and operation seems normal. |

OK, one thing I just caught.. looks like 'rushtop' isn't showing information for the vista machines. Not fatal to the normal operation of rush, but annoying. Will see if I can solve that in a fix release. |
