For a long time Lightwave wouldn't work with Rush on the Mac, due to Lightwave's past unusual command line behavior on that platform. Looks like in 9.3 (currently on newtek's website) it seems they made a "normal" command line tool for the Mac now. I've just been doing some initial tests that look promising with their newest release. Will follow up here with details on the simple modifications needed for the submit script. Here's a successful log from a Lightwave 9.3 render on an OSX machine: * * * ### ### tower.2: 0001 ### --------------- Rush 102.43 -------------- -- Host: tower -- Pid: 17353 -- Title: TEST-UNLAYERED -- Jobid: tower.2 -- Frame: 0001 -- Tries: 4 -- Owner: erco (1000/1000) -- RunningAs: erco (1000/1000) -- Priority: 1 -- Nice: 10 -- Tmpdir: /var/tmp/.RUSH_TMP.18 -- LogFile: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws.log/0001 -- Command: perl //meade/net/rushscripts/submit-lightwave.pl -render //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws - //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ 0 off 5 10 3 Fail -- Started: Tue Sep 25 16:28:23 2007 -------------------------------------------- SCENEFILE: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws CONFIGDIR: - CONTENTDIR: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ RENDERFLAGS: BATCHFRAMES: 5 (1-5) RETRIES: 3 (Fail after 3 retries) MAXLOGSIZE: 0 PATH: /Applications/Lightwave3D 9/:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/libexec:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/libexec:/System/Library/CoreServices Executing: ScreamerNet -3 -d//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws 1 5 1 LightWave MachOMac ScreamerNet Module (Build 1269) CPU number: 393 sendack: Initializing MachOMac Current directory is now "//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/". This is great news. We would love to see the changes to the script when you are done Greg. If my information is correct you also get 999 free render nodes. |-----Original Message----- |From: Greg Ercolano [mailto:erco@(email surpressed)] |Sent: Wednesday, 26 September 2007 9:35 AM |To: void@(email surpressed) |Subject: Lightwave 9.3 + Mac can now render through rush..? | |[posted to rush.general] | |For a long time Lightwave wouldn't work with Rush on the Mac, |due to its unusual command line tool behavior. | |Looks like in 9.3 (currently on their website) it seems they made |a /real/ command line tool now. | |I've just been doing some initial tests that look promising with |their newest release. | |Will follow up here with details on the simple modifications needed |for the submit script. | |Here's a successful log from a Lightwave 9.3 render on an OSX machine: | |* * * | |### |### tower.2: 0001 |### |--------------- Rush 102.43 -------------- |-- Host: tower |-- Pid: 17353 |-- Title: TEST-UNLAYERED |-- Jobid: tower.2 |-- Frame: 0001 |-- Tries: 4 |-- Owner: erco (1000/1000) |-- RunningAs: erco (1000/1000) |-- Priority: 1 |-- Nice: 10 |-- Tmpdir: /var/tmp/.RUSH_TMP.18 |-- LogFile: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test- |unlayered.lws.log/0001 |-- Command: perl //meade/net/rushscripts/submit-lightwave.pl -render |//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws - |//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ 0 off 5 10 3 Fail |-- Started: Tue Sep 25 16:28:23 2007 |-------------------------------------------- | | SCENEFILE: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test- |unlayered.lws | CONFIGDIR: - | CONTENTDIR: //meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ | RENDERFLAGS: | BATCHFRAMES: 5 (1-5) | RETRIES: 3 (Fail after 3 retries) | MAXLOGSIZE: 0 | PATH: /Applications/Lightwave3D |9/:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/local/rush/bin:/usr/libe |xec:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/libexec:/System/Library/CoreServi |ces | | |Executing: ScreamerNet -3 -d//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/ |//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws 1 5 1 |LightWave MachOMac ScreamerNet Module (Build 1269) |CPU number: 393 | |sendack: Initializing |MachOMac |Current directory is now "//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/". |Loading "//meade/net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/scenes/test-unlayered.lws". |Clearing scene |Loading settings |Pre-processing scene |Loading "objects/box-unlayered.lwo" |Validating scene |Preparing "objects/box-unlayered.lwo" |Scene loaded. |Allocating frame buffers. |Allocating segment buffers. |Updating geometry. |Moving box-unlayered. |Transforming coordinates. |Removing hidden polygons. |Sorting polygons. |Rendering frame 1, segment 1/1, pass 1/1. |Rendering opaque polygons. |Integrating pixels. |Writing RGB image to /net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/images_0001.tga. |Frame completed. |Last Frame Rendered: 1. |Rendering Time: 0.2 seconds. |Updating geometry. |Moving box-unlayered. |Transforming coordinates. |Removing hidden polygons. |Sorting polygons. |Rendering frame 2, segment 1/1, pass 1/1. |Rendering opaque polygons. |Integrating pixels. |Writing RGB image to /net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/images_0002.tga. |Frame completed. |Last Frame Rendered: 2. |Rendering Time: 0.2 seconds. |Updating geometry. |Moving box-unlayered. |Transforming coordinates. |Removing hidden polygons. |Sorting polygons. |Rendering frame 3, segment 1/1, pass 1/1. |Rendering opaque polygons. |Integrating pixels. |Writing RGB image to /net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/images_0003.tga. |Frame completed. |Last Frame Rendered: 3. |Rendering Time: 0.2 seconds. |Updating geometry. |Moving box-unlayered. |Transforming coordinates. |Removing hidden polygons. |Sorting polygons. |Rendering frame 4, segment 1/1, pass 1/1. |Rendering opaque polygons. |Integrating pixels. |Writing RGB image to /net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/images_0004.tga. |Frame completed. |Last Frame Rendered: 4. |Rendering Time: 0.2 seconds. |Updating geometry. |Moving box-unlayered. |Transforming coordinates. |Removing hidden polygons. |Sorting polygons. |Rendering frame 5, segment 1/1, pass 1/1. |Rendering opaque polygons. |Integrating pixels. |Writing RGB image to /net/tmp/scenes/lw/res-demo/images_0005.tga. |Frame completed. |Last Frame Rendered: 5. |Rendering Time: 0.2 seconds. |Freeing segment buffers. |Freeing frame buffers. |--- LWSN SUCCEEDS |

OK, you can try this script: http://seriss.com/rush/releases/patches-for-102.42a8/submit-lightwave-9_x-mac.tar.gz ..use your company's downloads password. This script has: o Mods to support LightWave 9.3 rendering on OSX o 'Middle clicking' on the frame in irush will open the rendered image in the local OS's image viewer This script assumes Lightwave is installed on the mac in: /Applications/Lightwave3D 9/ You can change the PATH setting at the top if need be. If you have any trouble, send me the complete frame log. -- Greg Ercolano, erco@(email surpressed) Rush Render Queue, http://seriss.com/rush/ Tel: (Tel# suppressed) Fax: (Tel# suppressed) Cel: (Tel# suppressed) |
