Just an FYI. I didn't know this, but apparently one can specify environment variables in Microsoft Window's file browsers? For example, if you have the environment variable called SHOW that is set to an existing path like \\server\jobs\honda, you can type at the Filename: prompt: %SHOW%\ ...and see a directory listing of \\server\jobs\honda. Since eg. Maya uses Microsoft's native file browsers, this means companies can come up with shortcut ways for users to access long pathnames easily, saving a bit of typing and manual surfing. Similarly, under Linux, with konqueror you can use $SHOW in the filename bar. Unfortunately, I don't think the Mac's file browsers work similarly. Pretty interesting, though. |
