Hi there! Is there any way to have Rushtop to only show one line per machine with a summary value for the CPU load instead of showing a bar for each individual core? I'd really like to see my whole renderfarm on a screen without scrolling like hell. In earlier times with only one or two cores per machine it was fine. But now with Nehalem-based Mac Pros with 16 virtual cores, it's hard to keep track of the status of the whole farm. Thanks for any help and best regards, Abraham -- Abraham Schneider Senior VFX Compositor, 2 D Artist ARRI Film & TV Services GmbH Tuerkenstr. 89 D-80799 Muenchen / Germany Phone (Tel# suppressed) EMail aschneider@(email surpressed) www.arri.de/filmtv ARRI Film & TV Services GmbH Sitz: München - Registergericht: Amtsgericht München - Handelsregisternummer: HRB 69396 Geschäftsführer: Franz Kraus; Dr. Martin Prillmann; Thomas Till |

Sure, I can add that. I'll see if I can pull together some new 'rushtop' executables that do this for you, and make it available on the website. If you don't know what it is, contact me.) That zip contains new rushtop executables for mac/linux/windows: mac/rushtop -- for all versions of OSX (intel/ppc) windows/rushtop.exe -- for all versions of windows fedora3/rushtop -- for most 32bit and 64bit versions of Linux ubuntu7-64/rushtop -- Use this if you've got a 64bit linux the fedora3 binary doesn't work with You can either use the install scripts in the zip file to install, or just copy the appropriate binary for your platform into the appropriate rush directory (rename out the old one first): WIN: c:\rush\bin\rushtop.exe MAC: /usr/local/rush/Applications/rushtop.app/Contents/MacOS/rushtop LINUX: /usr/local/rush/bin/rushtop Note that on the Mac the rushtop binary is NOT in rush/bin, it's in the .app directory shown above. The 'rushtop' you'll find in the rush/bin directory is a *script*, so don't replace that. Oh, and I should add how it works ;) Just right click on the new rushtop interface, and you should see: Preferences/Single Cpu Bar Per Host Also, if you run 'rushtop -help', you'll see the new "-single" and "-multi" command line flags to enable/disable this feature. eg: rushtop -single rushtop -multi Note that once turned on, rushtop remembers the setting for the next time rushtop is invoked (the setting is saved in the ~/.rushtoprc file). So if no flags are specified, the last setting is used. Note that when single mode is enabled, multiproc machines show the actual number of cpus in parens next to the hostname. There's also a new -nosort flag (which you didn't ask for, but another customer did) that disables sorting the hostnames in alphabetical order, so the hosts appear in rushtop in the order they appear in the rush/etc/hosts file, or in the order they appear on the command line, eg: rushtop -nosort zenith sony toshiba rca +farm If you have any trouble with the above, let me know. This version of rushtop SHOULD be compatible with recent versions of rush. If you have trouble, revert to the old rushtop (you did make a copy of the original rushtop, right? ;) > Greg Ercolano wrote: > Done -- give this a try: > http://www.seriss.com/rush/releases/patches/rushtop-single-and-nosort.zip > > 2009/6/26 Abraham Schneider <aschneider@(email surpressed)>: >>>> Is there any way to have Rushtop to only show one line per machine with >>>> a summary value for the CPU load instead of showing a bar for each individual core? -- Greg Ercolano, erco@(email surpressed) Seriss Corporation Rush Render Queue, http://seriss.com/rush/ Tel: (Tel# suppressed) Fax: (Tel# suppressed) Cel: (Tel# suppressed) |

I have an update for the rushtop with the single cpu bar mode; Dylan noticed that if "Use Decay" mode is on, all the bars 'pulsate' instead of bouncing smoothly. I hadn't noticed this, because I had been testing with "Use Decay" mode turned off (right click, choose Properties -> Use Decay to toggle) When disabled, the bars act normally. Anyway, I just uploaded a new zip file with a fix for this: http://www.seriss.com/rush/releases/patches/rushtop-single-and-nosort-07-01-2009.zip This new version advertises its build date as being '07/01/09' when rushtop is invoked with the '-help' flag, eg: rushtop -help [..] COPYRIGHT Rush(R) Network Render Queue, V102.42b-prerelease, Build Date: 07/01/09 ^^^^^^^^ > Greg Ercolano wrote: > Done -- give this a try: > http://www.seriss.com/rush/releases/patches/rushtop-single-and-nosort.zip > (Use your downloads password. Hi Greg!Sorry for not giving feedback sooner, it was a hard week here. Thanks for doing this so fast and nice! Seems to work quite well. Only thing that isn't working for me with the new build is that after restarting the app the number in parentheses which signals the core count isn't showing anymore. With the old build it worked just fine. (Talking about rushtop on a Mac Pro with 10.4). Strange thing is: if I switch on the option the paranthesis appear, but the layout of the lines is strange because I have a big grey gap after the first 5 lines. If I quit and restart the app the gap is gone, but the parantheses as well. Tell me if I should send you screenshots or test something. BTW: seems you have read my mind there, because after sending you the original post I thought it would be nice to still see the amount of cores somewhere. Then you have send the first build and it was already in there :) Thanks again and best regards, Abraham Greg Ercolano schrieb: [posted to rush.general] I have an update for the rushtop with the single cpu bar mode; Dylan noticed that if "Use Decay" mode is on, all the bars 'pulsate' instead of bouncing smoothly. Hello Greg, Thank you very much for the new version. It really is convenient!..A quick question though since I propagated the new binary on my linux stations rushtop is auto-starting at user login. What is reaaly weird is that I was never able to do that with previous binary even by saving the KDE session with rushtop running. Do you have any idea how to prevent rushtop to auto-start? Is it related to my system or to the new binary? Thank you for your help and all your work. Stephan.
