My IBM Wheelwriter I picked up at the Salvation Army for about $30.00.
It needed some work before it started working reliably; a new rubber solenoid cap.
It's a great machine for writing.. ribbons available from Staples.
Has auto-carriage return, auto-correction, underline modes, page memory..
and a nice 'buckling spring' clicky keyboard just like the original IBM PCs.
Very simple machine mechanically, reliable, and not as finicky as the Selectrics
(which need constant maintenance). I have a few selectrics too, and like them,
but the Wheel Writer really is much more reliable and easier for typing.
And the autoreturn feature really is an improvement over manual return on the selectric.
You can just keep typing even while a carriage return is happening.
