aphrodites-roto-2

OK, so back in the early 90's I developed a video roto system.. basically a way to trace frozen images from video one frame at a time. For my first tests of the system, I used 'Young Aphrodites' as source material, an old black and white film.

I don't actually trace stuff much, tracing is not very fun, and it often 'looks traced'. In this case I was doing a test to see if I could 'roughly' rotoscope the video, and get a nice effect animating the resulting artwork, vis a vis Mike Patterson's Calarts film "Commuter", or possibly more well known, his award winning "Take On Me" music video.

Update: Here's a couple of cool rotoscope tests I made that shows what this looks like: 1, 2.
These were done using a computer paint program called "Pencil".. took days of drawing, a few hours per day, probably 15 hours or so total.
